Senior Brand Designer
Role: Brand Designer
Location: Remote
Type: Contract / Hourly
Compensation: $75+ per hour. Commensurate with experience and portfolio.
Time Commitment: As-needed (avg. 10-20 hrs/week to start)
COMPANY OVERVIEW
Ethos Brand Studio is a boutique creative agency in its fifth year, working with small businesses and creative entrepreneurs who prioritize trust, excellence, and legacy. We offer brand strategy, visual identity, messaging, and web design, and we do it with a level of craft and intention that larger agencies rarely bring to smaller clients.
We’re a small, collaborative, fully remote team that’s mostly based in Boston. We lead with empathy, value quality over quantity, and believe that great work comes from thoughtful partnerships.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a Senior Brand Designer to join us as an independent contractor, with a path to a full-time role as the relationship matures. You'll be the design lead on client engagements across brand identity and visual systems. That means:
Developing brand identity systems from strategy brief to final deliverables — logos, typography, color, visual language, and brand guidelines
Translating brand positioning and messaging into cohesive visual direction
Collaborating with web designers and developers to inform aesthetics and usability
Collaborating closely with Victoria (Founder and Brand Strategist) and Rachel (Managing Director) on projects from kickoff through delivery — Victoria sets the brand strategy and informs creative direction; your role is to bring that direction to life visually with excellence and a strong point of view
Presenting concepts and rationale to clients in a clear, confident way with high-quality mockups and examples to bring the brand to life
Maintaining quality and consistency across all deliverables
WHO YOU ARE
You're a seasoned brand designer who takes craft seriously. You've worked on identity systems end-to-end and you understand that brand design is about developing a truly unique visual style that’s true to the client’s essence.
Specifically, you bring:
5+ years of brand and identity design experience, ideally with small-to-mid-size business clients
A strong, diverse portfolio showing visual identity work — beyond just digital marketing assets
Comfort working independently and managing your own time without heavy oversight
Clear, professional client communication skills — you can write a thoughtful email and hold your own in a feedback conversation
Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite and Figma
Familiarity with web design in Squarespace and Shopify
The ability to receive brand strategy direction and run with it — you're a collaborator, not a solo act, and you thrive when you have a strong strategic foundation to design from rather than starting from a blank page
You work as an independent creative, not as an agency owner with your own client roster competing for your attention. This is a collaborative contractor role, and we're looking for someone who genuinely wants to be part of a small team.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This is a project-based independent contractor engagement to start, with hours that flex based on active work. Realistic cadence is 10–25 hours per week during active project phases, with lighter weeks in between.
Victoria leads brand strategy on every engagement and serves as your primary creative collaborator. Rachel leads on operations, client relations, and project management, ensuring a smooth process between you and the client team. You'll work closely together from the strategy handoff through final delivery. The expectation is that you can translate a well-developed brief into exceptional visual work, push back thoughtfully when something isn't landing, and take creative feedback without ego. You’ll be a core part of the group, presenting concepts to clients, revising accordingly, and coordinating with each member of our team.
We're a small, well-run team. You won't be micromanaged, but you will be expected to communicate proactively, flag issues early, and show up with strong opinions about the work.
The right fit will have a real opportunity to grow into a full-time role as the studio's capacity and revenue expand.
How to apply
